Raunchy dance at UP Congress meet

Enjoying performance of nautch girls proved dear to some Congressmen when a former legislator from Saharanpur was served a show-cause notice by the UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who demanded an explanation into the cultural programme organised on Wednesday where bar girls gyrated to keep the audience awaiting her arrival at the venue glued to durries.

And more than the raunchy numbers, and the hop, twist and thrusts of a particularly active dancer on stage who brought the pandal down by her act, what upset the party chief more was the poorly timed entertainment.

Joshi had gone to the western UP district to offer a chaddor at a dargarh on behalf of Sonia Gandhi. Sonia, Congress sources said had been doing it for years and this time Joshi was chosen to do the honours.

UPCC media office was at pains to minimise the damage. The UPCC president had neither given any approval for any gazal recital concerts or dance performance nor did she attend it, the press release categorically maintained.

It also made a mention that the Saharanpur district unit had nothing to do with the incident. The nautch girl was invited by the former party MLC Gaje Singh, the release disclosed and added that a probe has already been initiated.
