Ram Kapoor to play a business man in Luv U... Mr. Kalakaar

Ram Kapoor, one of the most successful television actors has been seen in films since some time now. Unlike the other TV actors, who have had a hard time making it big in Bollywood, Ram Kapoor's talent as an actor got noticed and very well appreciated. He has been serious, funny, sweet, caring, egoistic as well as irritating on screen while playing the characters.

Whatever he does, whether tele-serials or movies, he does it with own style and charisma. Ram Kapoor still lives in the hearts of his fans as Jay Walia from Kasam Se.

Here's a pleasant interview of Ram Kapoor, about his upcoming movie, Luv U Mr. Kalakaar, his wife's take on his acting, and his future projects…

Tell us something about the movie Love U Mr. Kalakaar and your character in it?
It is typical Rajshri productions' film with a lot family drama and emotions. It's about a kalakar, an artiste. I play a character of a business man a father who hates artistes, so in this movie Tushaar Kapoor who plays the role of an artiste takes inspiration from everything around him, and I look down upon him and put him down all the time.

Like the character of Kamath Sir in KCK, does this character too have a grey shade?
No, none of the Rajshri movies have a character having a grey shade; all I would say is that I am difficult in the movie.

What made you choose this film? What appealed to you in this movie?
There are two reasons why I chose to do this film, firstly my role in it is fantastic, like in film standards it is the biggest role that I have played up till now in comparison to my roles in Udaan or Karthik calling Karthik (KCK). And another reason to choose this film is Rajshri Productions itself. The Barjatiya's are the most respected and veteran in the Bollywood industry. So I feel lucky to be working with them.

How did it feel like being a father to Amrita Rao?
It was same as any other role that I play. I have to get into the character like I would have if it were any other character; I have already been a father on screen for four years to different people, as Jay Walia in Kasam se.

How was your experience working with Prem Chopra? infact the experience with the entire star cast of Luv U Mr. Klakaar, since all of them are so experienced and amazing?
I feel very lucky, I had actually hoped for this. Initially my goal was to be choosy in films, I had decided that I would work with only those people I want to work with. And I have been lucky enough to be offered the kind of roles I want to play, and the kind of films I want to do with the right kind of people. However, I have a long way to go.

Are you a director's actor or you believe in improvisation?
I am a bit of both actually. I think one has to be a director's actor; in fact some directors do want you to improvise. I believe that a film involves teamwork, sharing of ideas, and that's when good work can happen.

How comfortable were you with your director?
I was very comfortable with my director, since we share a fantastic relation.

So will we see you only in films now, or you will do TV?
For time being I am concentrating on what I have at hand. I don't have any long term plans or goals that I will be doing only films or only TV. As of now my dates are gone for another six months and after that I don't have any plans as such. I am open to best offers. If I were offered a film and also something on TV, and if the offer on TV seems better than I'd gladly do it.

What's your ideal role, something that you wish to play once in your life?
My ideal role would be probably something like Godfather or something about underworld don. I would love to do a role like that if it comes my way.

What kind of role do you think you can play perfectly or you are good at?
I don't really know that, it is difficult for an actor to know what kind of role he is good at. It is for the audience to decide if the actor is good at certain role. I usually have same approach to every character or role that I have to play.

How does your wife react to the roles that you play?
Gautami, likes the way I act. In fact she is my biggest fan. But yes, there are times when she will tell me about certain role, that I could do better. We have detailed discussion on both the good and the bad part about my acting.

On the scale of 1-10 how much would you rate your wife in acting, since she has done both TV and bollywood?
I will give her an 8 on her acting skills.

Very few television actors have been able to make a mark in Bollywood, what's your take on this?
Yes, that is true, that there are very few TV actors who have been successful in Bollywood. However, I think that if you are good at your job, then you will eventually get recognition and will be able to make a mark. Not many successful TV actors can afford to or even can manage taking a risk to start their career in Bollywood, especially when you are well established in the Television industry.

Will you be hosting Swayamvar show this time?
I am open to Swayamvar, just that my dates shouldn't be clashing.

What are your future projects?
I have 2-3 projects lined up. One of them is Agent Vinod, wherein, I have an interesting role, it is dramatic, and something that people have never seen me doing before. I am really excited about this role. It is too early to disclose about the other two projects, that I am doing.
